When Glenn and Josephine of White Peak Shepherd Huts moved to the pretty Peak District village of Tideswell, they set about fulfilling their long-held ambition to build a shepherd hut.

“Glenn and I have always been interested sustainable design,” says Josephine, “and shepherd huts combine the green build ethos with a beauty and sense of history that makes them the perfect buildings for our landscape.”

“Two key principles of green design are durability and efficiency,” explains Glenn, “Our shepherd huts are constructed using the same technology as timber framed houses which we couple with an outer skin of wriggly tin and double glazed windows to produce a highly efficient structure built to last. In fact, one of the things our customers comment on most often is just how cosy our huts are.”

“Eco-friendly construction means that we should have as small an impact on our environment as possible,” says Josephine, “so all of our timber is FSC approved and our paints are water based. We source most our materials from local business, supporting the local economy and reducing our carbon footprint. And for basic power needs we can install solar or wind power and with gas heated showers and a composting toilet the environmentalist’s dream is complete!”
